Easy To Make Slow Cooker Apple Butter Recipe
I know the Instant Pot is the shiny new toy in most kitchens but you can’t go wrong with your crock pot or slow cooker. This apple butter recipe is tried and true from your slow cooker and I’ve never met anyone who didn’t love it (and ask for seconds). Simple ingredients that make the flavor of the apples the star – so let’s get cooking.
Slow Cooker Apple Butter Recipe – Ingredients
- 6 lbs of apples (I like fuji) – peeled, cored and chopped into chunks
(I recommend an inexpensive apple corer to speed up this job) - 1.5 cups or white granulated sugar
- 1.5 cups brown sugar, lightly packed
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (learn how to make your own here)
Slow Cooker Apple Butter Recipe – Directions
- Place your apple chunks in your slow cooker / crock pot.
- In a separate bowl mix your sugars, cinnamon, cloves and salt together until well combined
(DO NOT ADD VANILLA) - Pour the sugar and spice mixture over your apples and stir until the apples are all coated.
- Cover and put your slow cooker on low for about 10 hours.
- It is best if you can stir the mixture every few hours but not mandatory.
- After 10 hours remove the lid and add in your vanilla.
- Cook, uncovered, on low for an additional 1 – 2 hours.
- Use an immersion blender or a high powered blender like a Blendtec to puree the apple mixture until smooth and spreadable. You can do this with an old school potato masher too.
- Spoon your apple butter into sterile mason jars (or other air tight container).
- Butter should keep in the refrigerator for 10 – 14 days. It also freezes very well.
- This apple butter recipe makes a great spread on breads but also wonderful to use in pork and chicken recipes as well. Great drizzled on vanilla ice cream too.
- The color of your apple butter will vary depending on the type of brown sugar you use.
Just try not to eat it all right out of the jar! Or do…I won’t tell. Don’t forget to share a jar because everyone loves it!
