Home Made Pop Tarts Copycat Recipe

Ingredients

Jam

  • 2 lbs Fresh blackberries, or other fresh berry
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch (optional)

Tart

  • 1 Prepared rolled pie crust
  • Flour for dusting rolling surface
  • 1 cup Jam or Preserves
  • 1 Large Egg

Icing

  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp Milk or Cream
  • 2 tbsp Jam
  • 1/2 tbsp Vanilla Extract

Instructions

Make the Jam

  1. Add your fresh fruit and sugar to your instant pot. Mix well and then Twist the lead on the instant pot to seal. Push the ceiling valve away from you to close. Set your instant pot to high pressure for one minute and allow a natural release for 15 minutes.

  2. Once the final 15 minutes are up, pull the sealing valve away from you with a hot pad or towel to prevent burns.

  3. With a potato masher, mash the jam well, and stir to make sure the sugar as well Incorporated. If you want your jam a little bit thicker, use 1 tablespoon of cornstarch at a time. Mix and then add more if needed.

  4. Remove your jam two jars, or a large bowl to cool. Once your jam has cooled, you can start working on your tarts.

Assemble the Tarts

  1. Set your oven to 400°.

  2. On a flat surface such as a countertop or cutting board, lay out your piecrust. Lightly sprinkle some flour onto the crust, And with the rolling pin, thin your crust slightly.

  3. Using index card, or piece of paper that you have measured that is 3X5, place on your piecrust. Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut out your pop tart with your index card as a stencil.

  4. Continue to do this until you have used up all of your pie crust that will fit 3 x 5. With your remaining piecrust, knead that crust, and use the rolling pin to make more 3 x 5 rectangles.

  5. Taking your cooled jam, place About 1 1/2 tablespoons of your jam to the center of a rectangle.

  6. Take egg wash and line the sides surrounding the gym. Take another plain rectangle and place it on top of the rectangle that you have placed the jam on. Using a fork press the sides to seal in your jam.

  7. Use egg wash to completely coat the top part of your tart. Puncture holes in the top of the tart to allow air to be released while baking. You can use a fork, a chopstick, or even a toothpick.

  8. Be sure to line your cookie sheet with parchment paper.

  9. Once you have finished making all of your pop tarts, place them in the oven, and bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

Make Your Icing

  1. While your tarts are baking in the oven, make your icing. Together mix all of the ingredients for your icing. Set aside.

  2. Once your tarts have finished cooking, remove them from the oven and transferred to a cooling rack. Allow them to cool completely before putting icing on them. You can choose to put one or more layers of icing on your chart but allow the icing to cool before you add any more.
