Copycat In N Out Burger Recipe

  • 1 lbs Ground Beef – 80/20
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp Onion Powder
  • 3 Hamburger Buns
  • 3 tbsp Thousand Island Dressing
  • 1/2 Tomato, sliced
  • 3 slices Iceberg Lettuce Leaves
  • 3 slices American Cheese
  • 1/2 Onion, sliced


  1. Gather your ingredients.

    Mix together your beef, salt, pepper, and onion powder.

    Divide the meat into three sections.

  2. To form the meat: Pat them into 3 flat patties. This is where a Burger Press can really be handy!

    Wrap them in aluminum foil.

    Add 1 ½ cups of water to the inner pot of the Instant Pot.

    Place the trivet inside with your patties (in aluminum) on the trivet.

    Close the lid on your IP. Close the sealing valve. Set your IP to High Pressure for 10 minutes.

    When the 10 minutes has finished, do a quick release.

  3. Remove the patties from the aluminum foil.

    Assemble your burgers.

    Add your Thousand Island dressing to the bottom bun (or top bun if you prefer).

    Add your tomato, lettuce, burger, cheese, and onion slice.


Recipe Notes

If you have time and you really want the full animal style experience you’ll want the caramelized onions.

Chop your onions and sauté them up in a bit of butter and a pinch of salt. Replace the slice onions with these sautéed onions – worth the time!

If you do not like Thousand Island Dressing you can replace this with your favorite condiments, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard or none at all!
