Little House on the Prairie was a staple of my youth. Growing up I watched, with baited breath, as my friend Laura ran down the grassy hill and longed to run with her. I loved Little House on the Prairie. When I watched I wanted to BE Laura – smart, strong and a little sassy. I wanted to live with Ma & Pa and Mary. I felt like Nellie was my arch enemy too; and stopped wanting curls in my hair, only braids!
As I grew up those days of watching or reading Little House on the Prairie became a thing of the past. That is, until I started homeschooling. I was so excited to introduce Laura to my girls. To show a positive representation of parents on a television show (so rare now). It was wonderful to walk down the nostalgic streets of Walnut Grove again. I love that these books and the show have stood the test of time. Filled with values and lessons my family still holds dear and are not part of popular culture these days.
