I missed last week’s garden report but you didn’t miss much. This week lots has been sprouting…and a few things dying.
First the bad news: The Hornworms came…they ate…they died.
<— FYI, this is a hornworm. If you are not carefully inspecting your garden you might miss one of these camouflaged boogers!
I have, sadly, been distracted the last few weeks. These nasty things devastated 2 tomato plants and my last surviving green bell pepper plants.
But alas I got the last play in this game…and I fed each and everyone to my sweet hens. They proceeded to play a funny game of keep-away with them; it was more than a little gratifying.
What is the lesson in this my friends? Gardens are awesome and will feed you, your family and even animals. But dear ones, they are work! You need to be out there daily inspecting, not just watering. Lesson FINALLY learned.
The chickens may be the only ones disappointed…
Now onto the GOOD STUFF!
The Gourmet Lettuce Mix I planted weeks ago finally decided to start sprouting. This is the only container so I think I will re-plant the others tomorrow.
The celery I sprouted from a organic store-bought stalk is taking off in the garden box. It is all by itself so time to plant that box up!
The sweet potatoes are still growing like champs. I dug around a bit and not feeling anything yet. Still hoping for an October harvest!

Lastly I have to show you my pride and joy…ok well my compost pride and joy! It is only a few weeks out from being Prime Planting Material! *Happy Dance* I have to thank my friend and mentor, Donna from Sharing Life’s Abundance for guiding me in this. She truly is a compost guru!
What’s happening in your garden?????
