What if I told you that I had 20 awesome uses for baking soda that you may have never thought of?  Don’t we all have a box, or more, of baking soda around the house?

20 Awesome Uses for Baking Soda

  1. Deodorize the fridge – my grandmother always had an open box in the refrigerator.  Change ever 3 months.
  2. Scrub your sink with baking soda – it will be clean without all the chemicals in those “scrubs”.
  3. Make your crock pot easier to clean by soaking it with warm water and baking soda.  Soda can also help remove set stains in the crock pot.
  4. Freshen your mattress by dusting the mattress with a thin layer of baking soda, allow it to see for 2 – 4 hours and then vacuum up.
  5. Remove blood stains from fabric by soaking in cold water with a little baking soda.
  6. Stinky dishwashers can be renewed by adding a little baking soda to the bottom of the dishwasher and running it empty.
  7. Get that grout to sparkle by using a paste of water and baking soda.  Use the paste to scrub the grout – for really dirty grout allow it to sit a few minutes before scrubbing off.
  8. Make a toothpaste with 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1/4 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide.  Make the paste and brush your teeth, better to not swallow it.
  9. Ease the pain of a sun burn with a spray bottle filled with 1/4 up of baking soda and cold water.  Spray on burn as needed.
  10. Stop the pain from wasp and bee stings by applying a thick paste made of baking soda and water.  This can also alleviate itching from mosquito bites.
  11.  Use in place of antacid by dissolving a 1/2 teaspoon of soda into a glass of water and slowly drinking.
  12. Soften the water in your next bath by adding a 1/2 cup of baking soda; relaxing too.
  13. Sprinkle in your armpits for a natural alternative to store-bought deodorant.
  14. Pump up your dishwasher soap by adding 2 tablespoons to each cycle.
  15. Take the stink out of sneakers with a sprinkle of baking soda.
  16. Dust the carpet with it 15 – 20 minutes before vacuuming – the carpet and the cleaner will smell better.
  17. Clean your battery connection in the car with a paste and an old tooth brush.  Coat the corroded posts and cables the rinse.  Allow to fully dry before reconnecting.
  18. Pour baking soda full into cracks in a patio or walkway to kill weeds.
  19. Rid yourself of cabbage worms with a dusting of equal parts baking soda and flour on your plants.  The cabbage worms will eat it and die.
  20. Grow sweeter tomatoes by lower the acidity with baking soda.  See more here!
