What if I told you that I had 20 awesome uses for baking soda that you may have never thought of? Don’t we all have a box, or more, of baking soda around the house?
20 Awesome Uses for Baking Soda
- Deodorize the fridge – my grandmother always had an open box in the refrigerator. Change ever 3 months.
- Scrub your sink with baking soda – it will be clean without all the chemicals in those “scrubs”.
- Make your crock pot easier to clean by soaking it with warm water and baking soda. Soda can also help remove set stains in the crock pot.
- Freshen your mattress by dusting the mattress with a thin layer of baking soda, allow it to see for 2 – 4 hours and then vacuum up.
- Remove blood stains from fabric by soaking in cold water with a little baking soda.
- Stinky dishwashers can be renewed by adding a little baking soda to the bottom of the dishwasher and running it empty.
- Get that grout to sparkle by using a paste of water and baking soda. Use the paste to scrub the grout – for really dirty grout allow it to sit a few minutes before scrubbing off.
- Make a toothpaste with 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1/4 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide. Make the paste and brush your teeth, better to not swallow it.
- Ease the pain of a sun burn with a spray bottle filled with 1/4 up of baking soda and cold water. Spray on burn as needed.
- Stop the pain from wasp and bee stings by applying a thick paste made of baking soda and water. This can also alleviate itching from mosquito bites.
- Use in place of antacid by dissolving a 1/2 teaspoon of soda into a glass of water and slowly drinking.
- Soften the water in your next bath by adding a 1/2 cup of baking soda; relaxing too.
- Sprinkle in your armpits for a natural alternative to store-bought deodorant.
- Pump up your dishwasher soap by adding 2 tablespoons to each cycle.
- Take the stink out of sneakers with a sprinkle of baking soda.
- Dust the carpet with it 15 – 20 minutes before vacuuming – the carpet and the cleaner will smell better.
- Clean your battery connection in the car with a paste and an old tooth brush. Coat the corroded posts and cables the rinse. Allow to fully dry before reconnecting.
- Pour baking soda full into cracks in a patio or walkway to kill weeds.
- Rid yourself of cabbage worms with a dusting of equal parts baking soda and flour on your plants. The cabbage worms will eat it and die.
