I am friends with many stealth chicken owners. Forced to hide their small flocks like drug smugglers. Why? Because our local, state and federal government no longer support the concept of a backyard homestead. The practicality of keeping a few hens for food, profit and cleaning up of bugs and kitchen scraps has been lost to disgusting mega farms.
These abused animal produce grossly inadequate eggs with so much less nutrition than a free-range or even cage free backyard hen.
Your package of “farm fresh eggs” may have your envisioning this…
But this is the sad reality…
Keeping some backyard hens involves some work but the payoff is amazing. Fresh eggs, a connection to your food and a reduction in the waste going to landfills…chickens love food scraps not to mention they’ll keep your yard virtually bug free!
Even if you don’t want to keep chickens yourself, support your friends and family that do. Stand up for the right to own and keep chickens, even in city limits. You’ll be an important part of keeping our food sources sustainable, diverse and privately owned.
