And in other news, Arizona is baking!

Today’s high, here in Phoenix, is projected to be 113 degrees.  Can we say 7th dimension of hell?  Good.  But sadly it isn’t the highest temp we are expecting this week!!!!  My handy-dandy iphone says we are to expect a high of 118 on Saturday (low is 91)….  ::pause for dramatic effect:::

I am a native Arizonian, born and raised.  But I left the great state for 12 years (in CA and TX) and I think I lost my ability to handle this oppressive heat. So I will be complaining about said heat for the next several months…or until Thanksgiving.  :/

In other news…

Miss Lucy says good-morning while enjoying her freshly provided salad…nothing much to free range here in the summer.

The chickens are now fully capable of using their treadle feeder.  In just 2 weeks we have seen a reduction in flies, neighborhood birds and not one single dead mouse (my mini aussie loves to chase, kill and leave them on the porch for me).  *Happy Dance!*

The girls are also now very comfortable with their standing mister and no longer huddle in fear when I put it in the coop.  With the shade cloth, mister and plenty of water they are making it through this summer with little complaint.  I am considering adding a high velocity fan though, but still trying to work out the logistics there.

What’s growing (aka not dying) in the garden!

It should be noted that I am only 1 year into this whole backyard homesteading.  I am a work in progress and so is my garden.  But I am pretty stinking proud of it!
