Simple Homemade Dog Treats

July 20, 2015 by Tiffany Davis Leave a Comment

My dogs love me. I often wonder if its the homemade dog treats or me they love.

We have 3 of the most spoiled dogs on the planet. My teenager has 2 chihuahua mixed pooches that are about 10 years old and then my 9 year old has a 4 year Australian shepherd. Our house certainly wouldn’t be the same without them.

Like most dogs, our dogs love treats.  But most of the dog treats on the market of full of nasty ingredients.  Those that aren’t are super expensive. So what is one to do for their fur buddy? Make a simple homemade dog treat you can feel good about sharing with them!

Simple Homemade Dog Treats

I haven’t found a pup that can resist these little homemade delights.  I hope yours enjoy them as much as mine!

Ingredients

1/2 cup of creamy organic peanut butter
1/4 cup honey or molasses
1 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil – Coconut Oil for Pets
1 cup beef broth
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour

Directions

Preheat oven to 375
Mix peanut butter, honey, coconut oil and beef broth.
Mix dry ingredients in slowly.
Prepare your dough surface by dusting it with flour.
Roll dough out about 1/4 inch thick.
Use a cookie cutter to make individual treats. Pick a size that is appropriate for your dog. This dog bone set has several sizes.
OR you can do drop cookies by scooping a small ball and then using a fork to flatten them when they are on the baking sheet.
Put cut treats on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake for 8 – 9 minutes
Without opening the oven door, turn the oven off.
Allow the treats to stay in the oven for another 1 – 2 hours while they harden
Store in an airtight container – should keep for up to a month.

Do you make any treats for your pets or livestock?
