Women Homesteaders of the 1940s

September 27, 2013 by Tiffany Davis 5 Comments

Only in the forties could women be portrayed as hard working homesteaders…with wonderful fashion sense.  But I don’t care; these are stunning portraits! Thank you Life Magazine for preserving this bygone era.

Haven’t you ever run out to your garden right after church to plant something? Steve teases me for doing that all the time.

Well at my church we are pretty casual so I wouldn’t be running out in heals! 😉

What wonderful pictures! Thank you for finding these and sharing them. Two I especially liked are the ones with two women and the goat. Did you see the shoes! Just love the shoes! Also the woman who came home from church and grabbed two chickens headed for the pot. Laughs. You know women in that ere wore aprons to protect their work clothes. What fun to see this. Thanks again!

So glad you enjoyed them! I am inspired to wear heals, fix my hair and put on some blush before I muck on the chicken coop…not. 😉

Thanks for coming by for a visit.
