Skip the potatoes and prepare these healthy homemade Zucchini Tots. They are crispy, flavorful, and naturally good for you to eat.

What Are Zucchini Tots?
Zucchini Tots are similar to a traditional tater tot. Instead of using chopped pieces of potato to prepare them, you’ll use zucchini that you’ve grated and mixed with other ingredients. These tots have such a great taste, and they are better for you to eat.
Instead of frying them, you’ll prepare the baked zucchini tots in your oven, in your oven for up to 22 minutes or until they’re golden brown.
What You’ll Need to Have to Make Zucchini Tots
Before you get started on making the Zucchini Tots, you’re going to need the following ingredients:
- Shredded Zucchini. Grate your zucchini and make sure you have at least a cup of it to get started.
- Egg. You will use the egg to get your grated zucchini pieces to stick together before breading them.
- Breadcrumbs. Use your favorite breadcrumbs to create an outer layer for the Zucchini Tots.
- Onion Powder. Add onion powder into the mixture to enhance the flavor of these tasty tots.
You’ll need a few other ingredients, including salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, chopped garlic and cooking spray. There is a good chance that you have most or all of what you need already at home. If so, you can get started on this recipe.
You will also need a clean kitchen towel to remove moisture from the zucchini squash!
How Long Will They Need to Cook?
You’ll need to let your Zucchini Tots cook in the oven for a minimum of 18 minutes. However, depending on your oven, they may need to cook a bit longer. Be sure to check at the 18-minute mark. If they’re not as golden brown as you’d like, you can allow the Zucchini Tots to cook for an additional four to five minutes.
Jump to RecipeCan I Add Extra Spices to the Tots?
You can always add a few extra spices to your Zucchini Tots to give them a unique flavor. For example, if you’d like to enjoy spicy tots, you can add cayenne pepper and chili powder into the mix with your garlic. If you’d like them to taste a bit like elote, you can use elote seasoning in the mixture. Of course, you can stick with the original recipe to keep it simple.
Which Breadcrumbs Should I Use?
Use any breadcrumbs that you have available at home. You may want to use Panko breadcrumbs for an even crispier coating. The Panko-style breadcrumbs are larger and crunchier, leaving you with that extra crispy coating on your Zucchini Tots. However, you can also use traditional or Italian-style breadcrumbs for these tots.
Can I Add Other Grated Vegetables to the Recipe?
While you don’t need to add any other grated vegetable to this recipe, it’s fine to do so. Grated carrot will go great with the grated zucchini when combined, seasoned, and breaded with the breadcrumbs.
Which Dipping Sauces Taste Best With Zucchini Tots?
Feel free to serve your Zucchini Tots with a variety of flavorful sauces. These crispy, healthy tots will taste delicious when dipped in ranch dressing, buffalo sauce, ketchup, or even sriracha. It all depends on your preference! You can use your favorite dipping sauce from the store or prepare one from scratch using a few simple ingredients.
What Should I Serve with the Zucchini Tots?
Serve your Zucchini Tots as an appetizer or healthy side dish to all kinds of grilled meats. They are a great alternative to traditional tater tots and fries. You might want to pair them with hamburgers, grilled chicken, hot dogs, or any other entree that you plan on serving. While you can eat them as a side dish, they’re also a great snack to have in the middle of the day when you want something warm, crisp, and delicious.
How Do I Store the Zucchini Tots?
Once you’ve prepared your tots, allow them to cool down before putting them in a food storage container with an airtight lid. You can place the tots in the fridge and keep them fresh for up to three days. When you need to reheat them, place them back in the oven for a few minutes or microwave them for about a minute to get them hot again.
If you have an air fryer, you can place them in the air fryer and cook them for a few minutes to get them crispy again.
Can I Freeze the Zucchini Tots?
If you’d like to save your tots for more than three days, you can freeze them. It’s best to put them in a large freezer food storage bag and seal them shut before placing them in the freezer. Once you’ve got them in the freezer, they’ll stay fresh for up to six months. When you want to reheat them from frozen, toss them in the oven or an air fryer to heat them.
