Non-Power Kitchen Tools For Emergencies need to be part of preps! You never know when an emergency will occur. If something happens and you have no power for an extended period, it helps to have various non-electric kitchen tools available to use. If you have these non-electric tools, you can continue to prepare different meals for your family while going through challenging times.
Although it may require more effort when using these tools compared to the electric options, having something to use is better than nothing. If you have yet to collect some non-electric kitchen tools for emergencies, check out this list of gadgets you need to get.
These items could come in handy for you on more than one occasion. Instead of having no power for days and getting stuck without a way to cook anything, you can make sure you are fully prepared for anything that comes your way.

1. Manual Can Opener
A manual can opener is one of the most important non-electric kitchen tools to have for emergencies. You may have a stockpile consisting of different canned foods, including soups, vegetables, beans, and even canned meats.
- Trying to open these canned items with a knife is both time-consuming and dangerous. If you cannot use your electric can opener to get to the contents of a can, have a spare manual can opener in a kitchen drawer.
- If you do not have power, you can still open cans with ease and begin serving food to your family.
Unfortunately, when dealing with no power for days on end, you may need to live off of canned foods. While it is not the healthiest option, it will keep you and your family’s stomachs full during an emergency. Different types of manual can openers are available for low prices, including both metal and plastic options that work exceptionally well.

2. Non-Electric Blender
It might not seem that important, but a hand crank blender is a must-have non-power kitchen tool. If you have a baby and run out of baby food with no power and no way to get to the store, you can use your blender to begin blending fruits and vegetables.
The manual mixer requires more effort than an electric blender, but it allows you to blend foods down to the perfect consistency when you need to do so.
While it comes in handy for those with babies, it is also something you might want to use for yourself and other family members. You can use the blender to create smoothies consisting of fruits and vegetables that you might already have and would like to keep from going bad.
If you are stuck without power in cold temperatures, you can pre-make smoothies using the manual blender, pour the contents into plastic containers or mason jars, and keep them cold by placing them in your backyard. The smoothies are good for you and your family and are great to have in an emergency.

3. Non-Electric Food Chopper/Processor
When you think of a food processor chopper, you may think of something you plug into the wall to chop food down into small pieces. Although the electric versions are more popular and are a common appliance in most kitchens, there are non-electric versions of them!
If you think you might need to chop food down into small pieces at some point, you should buy a manual food chopper/processor. For example, you may want to chop onions or peppers into small pieces.
You can use those peppers with hot dogs or other canned meats that you might have when trying to prepare a tasty meal for the family. With the right tools and a bit of creativity, you can continue preparing the best meals for your loved ones, even without having electricity.

4. Flameless Food Warming System
The flameless food warming system is worth purchasing and using when you are without power. These systems typically consist of heat packets and food trays that you can use. You would simply add water and wait for the system to get hot. Once it gets hot, your food will start getting warm.
You may have noticed people using flameless food warming systems at different events, such as baby showers and wedding receptions to keep the buffet-style food warm. Although these systems are great for those events, they are even better to have when dealing with an emergency.
Rather than eating cold food from a can, you can pour the contents of a can into one of the heating trays and warm it up before serving it. Some of the foods you might want to heat include canned chili, soups, and stews.

5. Emergency Portable Stove
Did you know that you can purchase an emergency stove? An emergency stove is a small appliance that does not require the use of electricity to produce heat and prepare a meal. Depending on the type of emergency stove you buy, you may only be able to use it once. However, it can still come in handy when you want to have a hot meal without having a power source.
- The emergency stoves are super affordable and easy to find. You can even purchase more than one online if you want to store these items away for potential emergencies that can occur.
- If 2020 and 2021 have taught us anything, it is that all kinds of disastrous things can happen in the blink of an eye.
- Because emergencies can occur that may cause you to deal with a loss of power for more than just a few hours, it helps to buy non-electric kitchen tools.
- After you buy these items, you can store them in a safe place until you need them. You may use these kitchen tools to prepare different foods for yourself and your loved ones.
- Although the manual tools require more effort than electric options, they quickly become life-saving essentials when there is no power available.

Your list is pretty good. But your non electric blender (one I’ve had on my Amazon wish list for awhile now) is unavailable, your manual food chopper/processor is for an electric one, your flameless food warming system is for the refills only (@ $62, the SYSTEM costs another $85!). The other essentials, the solar cooker is almost $500, when there is a much lesser known one for only about $85. which looks like it would be just as good….sorry to bust your good works. Your ideas are great and this list is pretty substantial, just needs tweaking a bit for those of us who don’t have gazillions of $$$ to spend.
I found two manual choppers/processors for about $25 each, nothing really, to replace the flameless warmer, but I’d bet using inexpensive tea lights under a terra cotta planter would work just fine, Not sure about the blender, but I did find one on Lehmans for a bit more$$….but it too, may be sold out and unavailable, since almost ALL things like this are made in China and we can’t get many items for that reason.
I can’t control if a product becomes unavailable. These are just ideas, a springing off point. I did fix the link to the chopper. Yes, there are less expensive solar ovens but this is the one I know is tried and true and worked in Texas this week in below freezing temperatures. Of course you have to work within your budget. I do my best to provide information for free, however I can’t ask retailers to do the same.
I’m sorry: I did not mean to offend. Just wanted you to know about the unavailable blender, and the link for an electric product. …
Carol <3 You didn't! I'm sorry if my comment made it sound like that; I was rushing to respond on our way to homeschool coop!!! I always appreciate feedback.
I am an old lady with adult kids who I homeschooled. Everytime I see or hear someone talk about homeschooling their kids, it makes me smile. One of my first thoughts is, thank you Lord, there are yet more children saved from the influence of the Public Facilities of Indoctrination. Let me share with you how this journey of homeschooling your kids ends. You have adult children who are incredible! Not perfect because no one is, but you will spend every day after they graduate thanking God for the incredible blessing of being able to homeschool those kids. I watch my kids go through their adult years and I see such a wonderful difference between them and those who went to those Public Facilities of Indoctrination. Now more than ever before, it is so important to try to keep the kids out of the system. We lived on a budget that to me still doesn’t seem humanly possible but it was worth every penny I pinched. Every homeschooling mom has a day now and then when they think that they must have been out of their minds to take it on but there are so many more days when you are so filled with joy and contentment. As a HS mom, I am sure that you have seen that light of finally understanding in those kids eyes. We are so blessed to be able to see that beautiful light in their eyes over and over. I could go on and on but I don’t want to run out of room before I have a chance to tell you Carol, Great job as a Mama! You are an incredibly brave strong lady! Remember, those kids are not missing anything! Teach them through graduation!
Being a homeschool mom has been a calling on my life before I even had children. I am in the homestretch now with the baby who is 15. I never regret our choice to homeschool and the many sacrifices we made to be one!! <3
I like our non-electric food processor! All of these are great options.
There are so many options that use no power. I like them for money savers as well as emergency prep.
