12 Reasons to Stockpiling Honey

August 15, 2022 by Tiffany Davis Leave a Comment

Thinking about stockpiling honey? Just a few years ago, archaeologists discovered 3,000-year-old honey that was stored away in several tombs in Egypt.

And what was so shocking about their discovery, was that it was still edible! You may have already heard that honey doesn’t ever really expire, and it’s true!

Why you should stockpile honey

But not only that, but it’s also a healthy and natural sweetener that can serve many amazing purposes other than for your enjoyment. Keep reading to find out several reasons why honey deserves a spot in your survival stockpile.

1. Improves Allergy Symptoms

Raw honey has been shown to help reduce allergy symptoms. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, start by consuming a small amount of raw honey every day and gradually increase the amount. Doing this will help your body get used to the pollen in the honey and over time, hopefully, lessen your reactions to seasonal allergies.

It is best to buy your honey from a local beekeeper so that the bees are using local pollen.

2. Aids in Digestion

Your gut has a lot more to do with your health than what you might have originally thought. Fortunately, honey contains prebiotic nutrients that help promote the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut. A healthy gut is essential for proper digestion and overall good health.

3. Brings Relief to a Cough and Sore Throat

Honey has been shown to be just as effective as over-the-counter cough suppressants in treating a cough. And not only is it effective, but it’s also all-natural! That being said, honey can also help soothe a sore throat. The next time you’re feeling under the weather, try mixing honey with warm water and lemon.

4. Stockpiling Honey Helps Fights Inflammation

The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of honey make it an excellent natural remedy for inflammation. If you’re suffering from any type of inflammation, try applying raw honey to the affected area or consuming a small amount of honey each day.

5. Helps Wounds Heal Faster

Honey has also been shown to help wounds heal faster. When applied topically to a wound, honey creates an ideal environment for healing by keeping the area moist and protecting it from infection.

6. Moisturizes Chapped Lips

Try imagining going a long period of time without any chapstick at your disposal. Sounds awful, right? But that could very well be the case following a SHTF scenario. Fortunately, honey can come to your rescue. All you need is a few other ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 teaspoon of raw honey
  • 2 teaspoons granulated white sugar
  • 1 drop of lemon essential oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Jojoba oil
  • An empty lip balm container

Directions: Mix the ingredients together. Rub a tiny amount on your lips and leave it on for about a minute. Then rinse. You can store the remainder in an empty lip balm container. Just be sure to use it up within a month or so.

7. Reduces the Risk of Diabetes and Cancer

Honey has also been proven to help reduce the risk of both diabetes and cancer.

This is due to the fact that honey contains phenolic compounds, which are known to have anti-diabetic and anti-cancer properties.

That’s not to say that you should stop taking your prescribed medication. Be sure to check with your doctor if consuming raw honey is right for your situation.

8. Lowers Cholesterol

When you start to get older, keeping watch of your cholesterol level becomes more important than ever. Honey has proven to be effective in lowering both LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol levels.

9. Helps You Sleep Better

Believe it or not, consuming a small amount of raw honey just before bedtime can help you sleep better at night. You’d certainly be needing that if you were laying awake restless following an emergency situation. Simply add a tablespoon of raw honey to a warm glass of milk and drink it before you go to sleep.

10. Used as a Natural Energy Drink

Instead of relying on commercial energy drinks that contain artificial ingredients and high amounts of sugar to give you the boost you’re needing, consider going with raw honey instead. It’s proven that honey contains electrolytes and enzymes that are just as effective.

By mixing honey with water, not only will you stay hydrated, but you’ll feel better and more alert in no time! Maybe stockpiling honey will become the new “hip” thing to do for energy later down the road.

11. Adds Shine to Your Hair

If you’re looking for a more natural way to add shine and softness to your hair, look no further than honey! Just mix one tablespoon of honey with an egg yolk and massage it into your scalp and hair. Let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing it out. Doing this once a week will leave your locks looking healthier in no time.

12. Stockpiling Honey Helps Preserves Food

This is arguably one of the most important reasons why preppers need to add honey to their list of items that they need to stockpile.

Preserving food to last long-term should be a huge priority for every prepper, as you never know when an emergency situation will occur that will prevent you from having access to fresh food. Honey can help you do just that! Stockpiling honey is important after all!

Honey has been used as a form of food preservation for thousands of years, and there’s a good reason why. The high sugar content in honey prevents bacteria and other microorganisms from growing, which makes it the perfect natural preservative.

Not to mention, honey also helps to keep foods moist, which is essential for preserving them.
