DIY Bug Repellent Bars

June 2, 2015 by Tiffany Davis 11 Comments

DIY Bug Repellent Bars are the summer must have item.  The weather is warming up and the bugs and blood suckers are upon us.  But I have an easy solution for your troubles – a lotion bar that moisturizes the skin and repels the bugs!

DIY Bug Off Lotion Bars

These bars use all organic materials so none of that nasty stuff you find in most bug repellent products.  I mean have you read those ingredients lately?  CHEMICAL CRAP STORM!  Who wants to slather toxins on their kids or themselves?  No thanks.

These lovelies will keep our skin soft while screaming BUG OFF!  Only 4 ingredients and you can make as many or as few as you like. Whether you are working in the garden or on a summer picnic; you’r going to love these bug repellent bars.

Ingredients for DIY Bug Repellent Bars

2 oz Beeswax (I used this)

4 oz Organic Shea Butter (I used this)

2 oz Organic Coconut Oil (I used this)

35 – 40 drops of Bug Away Essential Oil Blend (Get that here)
I originally made this with doTerra’s Terrashield, see why I switched here.

Double Boiler

Bar Mold (I used this)

Directions for DIY Bug Repellent Bars

  1. Melt the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil over a double broiler.  I usually melt the beeswax a little first because it takes the longest to melt.
  2. Remove from heat and add the Bug Off essential oil blend, mix slightly
  3. Carefully pour into the molds and allow to cool and cure for 24 hours
  4. Remove from the mold and put them in a plastic tub for later use.

Using this mold I was able to make 6 bars.

When I take my bug repellent bars with me I put one in an old Altoids can.  These can get soft or downright melt when the weather heats up, so don’t leave it outside.
