If you love a delicious, and cheap, meal then you need this Dry Bean Soup Mix Recipe! Bean soup is a healthy and hearty soup that makes a great recipe and a wonderful winter meal.

You can buy pre-made package of 15 beans soup mix; but I enjoying making my own for pennies a serving. This is a good basic recipe but you can play with the ingredients and make it your own.
Beans are one of those foods that I recommend buying in bulk. You can change up the beans, lentils and peas that you put in this recipe by what you have or what you find for the best deal. See the other foods I recommend you buy in bulk.
We love beans as main and side dishes. Check out my recipe for Southwest Pinto Beans and my Grandmother’s Southern Ham and Beans Recipe!
This budget friendly soup can be stored in your pantry until you’re ready to use. If kept in an air tight container, in a cool dry place, it should keep for more than a year.
It is definitely something I would include in my emergency food storage or preps.
Once you are ready to prepare it, you can use your crock pot or slow cooker, for a easy weeknight dinner that you make ahead. I have included those directions below as well.
The dry bean soup pairs beautifully with my Cast Iron Skillet Bread or my Rustic No Yeast Bread.

How to Prepare Dry Bean Soup Mix Recipe
I make this soup in my slow cooker but it would be equally good in a large pot or Dutch Oven on your stove top.
Rinse beans to remove any debris. Soak beans overnight (add enough water to cover and an extra 1-2 inches). I do this in my crock pot.
In the morning, dump the soaking water.
To the crock pot and beans add the spice packet, 1 – 2 cups of water, 2 cups of stewed or diced tomatoes (optional).
I also often add a ham hock or ham bone for more flavor.
Turn on to low head and cook for 4-6 hours, or until beans are tender.
Turn crockpot down to low or warm, and let simmer until ready to serve.
Garnish with sour cream, cilantro, or cheese and desired.
