Rich & Delicious Peppermint Hot Chocolate Recipe

Course Drinks
Cuisine American
Keyword Christmas, drinks, hot chocolate, pepperment chocolate
Servings 5

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Milk Try 1/2 milk & 1/2 heavy cream for a richer flavor.
  • 10 oz Chocolate Chips I like semi-sweet but milk chocolate will work too.
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp Peppermint Extract Start with 1/2 tsp and add more if needed to taste.
  • Optional Toppings – Cane Cane, whipped Cream topped with crushed peppermint candies, sprinkles or mini white chocolate chips. Marshmallows are great too.

Instructions

  1. Heat milk (or milk and cream combo) on the stove top in a medium sauce pan.

  2. Bring to a simmer, not a boil.

  3. Stir often so the milk does not burn to the bottom of the pan.

  4. Once the milk has come to a low simmer remove the pan from the heat and add in the chocolate chips.

  5. Stir until all of the chocolate is melted and the drink is creamy.

  6. Stir in 1/2 tsp of the peppermint extract.

  7. Taste and only add more if you need to. Peppermint is a strong flavor.

  8. Serve warm with whipped cream and a candy cane or other optional toppings.
